Man Cave

While a wife may have substantial authority over a whole house in terms of design and decoration, she generally has no say about what gets “mounted on the walls” of a man’s personal space. Man caves have multiple purposes: they are a place to be alone, to be away from women and from female sensibilities, to indulge in hobbies, and to hang out with male friends. Rules are relaxed; it is a place where other people’s sensibilities about standards of cleanliness are not necessarily observed; as one man said, “You spill a beer there or leave a hamburger overnight, who cares?” – Wikipedia

This notice is without Betsy’s consent or knowledge…so it might be gone in a few days. 🙂

Prized displays/posters/items/junk. After item #1, not necessarily in order of coolness/value. All are a distant second to #1.
Click on the heading for photos or more information.

  1. F18 Tailhook:  On display is Tom Meadow’s tailhook from his service as a naval aviator. A brass engraved plate reads “LCDR Tom Meadows, 700 Carrier Arrested Landings.”  I understand he had 1042  successful landings in his career. If you have a grandchild in town, bring them to BBP to see and hold on to this, if for no other reason!
  2. Short Snorter from WWII:  In the family home under 10,300 lbs of a hoarder’s paper and plastic, my father’s short snorter was miraculously discovered. Never heard of one…click the heading to learn more.  Jack Dempsey and Ernie Pyle are among the signers.
  3. Axe In Stump:  Here’s a nice wood carving made from a single piece of cedar – Tim Ables – craftsman. The handle is the branch coming out of the trunk.
  4. Kitty Hawk Sand: Never been to Orville and Wilbur’s testing grounds. Well wait no more….place your hand in the tray of sand that actually came from the area. Of course it wasn’t taken from Federal property…but very nearby.
  5. Motherboard Ceiling: With about ninety (90) motherboards, this shop/hangar bathroom ceiling has a certain geeky character. I’m thinking it’s one of the first in Baxter County…most definitely the first in the Mountain Home area. 🙂
  6. Barbecue Sauce Collection:  Ninety eight (98) bottles on the top row and ninety seven (97) on the bottom. A few more are in storage and will be on display someday. There’s a good story behind all these bottles…click to read more.
  7. Artillery Shell Towel Rack: Here’s a lead filled oak training/practice round that a young man might have learned how to load in 1944.
  8. Show Shoes:  My first big purchase when E-Bay launched their services.
  9. Anvil: The anvil weighs in at 138.5 lbs. Dino picked it up with no difficulties. He’s a good friend of mine, and one of the best pilots I’ve ever seen, by the way.
  10. Don Paul’s Beer in Waiting: Here’s an explanation of the beer no one is drink but him and the reason behind his paintball poster. Also, we use his refrigerator every week….Thanks!
  11. Jungle Bob’s Round-The-World bristle dart board: Bob and his dart board have seen the world!
